Ingredients

  • Salted butter: 10 tablespoons, softened
  • Yellow onion: 1 medium, chopped
  • Water: 1 tablespoon
  • Kosher salt: ¾ teaspoon
  • Black pepper: ¾ teaspoon, freshly ground
  • Ground beef: 1 pound, 90 percent lean
  • Buns: 4, toasted
  • Vegetable oil: 1 teaspoon
  • American cheese: 4 slices
  • 5 potatoes (for the fries)
  • Extra oil
  • Salt: to taste

Method

Step 1

Take 2 tablespoons of butter and melt them in a big skillet using medium heat.

Step 2

Add water, ¼ teaspoon salt, and chopped onion. Cover the skillet and cook these ingredients for 5 minutes or till they become soft. Once done, lower the heat and remove the lid.

Using a wooden spoon, toss the onions around and continue cooking them till they become transparent and start to brown. This process should take 3 minutes.

Step 3

Take the onions out of the skillet and onto a plate. Divide into four equal parts and keep them aside to be used later.

Step 4

Start dividing the beef into 4 equal portions. Shape them up to four patties. Make sure that the patties are not too thick or too thin. Now, take some salt and pepper and sprinkle each side of the patty with it. Store the patties in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Step 5

Toast the buns and cover each side with 2 tablespoons of buttery goodness. Set the burger buns aside.

Step 6

Take some oil and heat it in the same skillet used as before. The oil needs to be heated sufficiently so that it starts to smoke. With the help of a spatula, put the patties in the skillet and allow them to cook for 3 minutes. Remember, you do not need to move the patties or play with them at this point.

Once done, flip the patty and cook it for an additional minute. Separate the cheese and place one slice on top of the patty. Cook the patty until the cheese melts. This should take 30 seconds, depending on your stove and the flame you are using.

Step 7

Carefully transfer the patties onto the bottom buns. Take out ¼ of the sauteed onions and place them on the patties. Cover the patties with the buttered buns.

Fries to Go With Your Butter Burger

Step 1

Cut up some potatoes into equal vertical slices and wash them thoroughly to remove all the dirt. Remember, the thinner the potato slices are, the crisper your fries will turn out.

Step 2

Put the potatoes in a big bowl filled with cold water and let them soak for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Step 3

Drain the water and put the potatoes on a lined baking sheet. Make sure to dry the potatoes with paper towels.

Step 4

Take a deep pan and heat some vegetable oil till it reaches 300 degrees F.

Step 5

Fry the potatoes in 3 to 4 batches. Each patch should take 5 minutes. You do not need to fry them till they are brown.

Step 6

Take the potatoes out and onto the baking sheet.

Step 7

Increase the heat of the pan till the oil reaches 400 F. Put the potatoes back in the oil in batches and fry till they are crisp and golden in color.

Step 8

Take the fries out of the pan and onto paper towels to soak up the extra oil.

Step 9

Sprinkle the fries with some sea salt and serve with ketchup!
