- Salted butter: 10 tablespoons, softened
- Yellow onion: 1 medium, chopped
- Water: 1 tablespoon
- Kosher salt: ¾ teaspoon
- Black pepper: ¾ teaspoon, freshly ground
- Ground beef: 1 pound, 90 percent lean
- Buns: 4, toasted
- Vegetable oil: 1 teaspoon
- American cheese: 4 slices
- 5 potatoes (for the fries)

Take 2 tablespoons of butter and melt them in a big skillet using medium heat.
