Impossible Burger Recipe – Our Secret to Creating the Best Burger

We have discovered that no burger is complete without some chili and French fries. You will find several recipes, but this impossible burger recipe is hard to compete with.

PS: The secret is allowing the chili to simmer.

Infact, the prep time we have mentioned above is so that the chili can simmer sufficiently so that you get to experience its exquisite flavors. However, you must remember to not over-simmer as this can dry the chili out. We have to warn you, though- you will have to multitask so that you can fry your fries while the chili is simmering.

If you like chili cheese fries with your burger and think of your favorite fast-food place every time someone mentions these fries, you are in for a treat. These fries have loads of flavor and do not taste like cheap tomato puree or loads of chili powder. You will find the perfect balance with this recipe so that you are left with some tangy and fresh chili, melted cheese, and of course, the magnificent impossible burger.

We recommend consuming this dish in any season, but it hits different on a chilly evening or afternoon in the winter or fall season. If it’s snowing outside, the impossible burger will taste even better. Cook this recipe during the holidays for your friends and family members if all you want is some comfort food.

So, without further ado, let’s jump in!

Ingredients

  • Impossible beef: 12 ounces
  • Garlic: 2 cloves
  • Ground cumin: ½ tablespoon
  • Ground coriander: 1 teaspoon
  • Crushed tomatoes: ½ ounce can
  • Sour cream: 1 cup
  • Kosher salt: To taste
  • Onion: Yellow, ½
  • Chili powder: 1 tablespoon
  • Cayenne pepper: Ground, ½ teaspoon
  • Vegetable stock: 1 cup
  • American cheese: 3 slices
  • Scallions: 1 bunch
  • Water: 7 ounces
  • Russet potatoes: Two, ½ pounds each
  • Cornstarch: 3 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil: 1 gallon
  • Burger buns: 4
  • Lettuce
  • Ketchup

Method

Step 1: Start Cooking the Impossible Burger

Start by mincing the garlic and dicing the onion. Add them to a large pot and cook until they start to soften. Throw in the impossible beef and stir until it is cooked and turns brown. Carefully put the dry seasonings in the pot and combine them with the beef.

Once done, add in the vegetable stock and crushed tomatoes. The mixture needs to be boiled, after which you need to let it simmer. Let this cook for 30 minutes or till you start to see it get reduced by 20 percent.

Step 2: Start Dicing Your Potatoes

In the meanwhile, cut the potatoes lengthwise into thick slices, ensuring each slice is ¼ inch thick. You can do this by stacking the potatoes on a cutting board to make your job easier.

Put the cut potatoes in a colander and wash them with cold water till they are thoroughly clean. Drain well and put them on a baking sheet, and dab them with some paper towels. The potatoes need to be as dry as possible to become crispy when you fry them.

In a big bowl, combine the cornstarch and throw in the potatoes till they are coated well. On a baking sheet, place the potatoes at an even distance.

Step 3: Fry the Fries

In a big pot, put in the oil. Keep a baking sheet ready with some paper towels. Start warming it so that it reaches 350. Carefully put the potatoes in the oil in a few batches so that you do not overcrowd the pan. The potatoes need to be flipped every now and then so that the outsides become crispy- this should take approximately 4 minutes.

With the help of a slotted spoon, put the fried potatoes onto a baking sheet. Season with some salt while still hot. Allow the potatoes to cool for 20 minutes or 2 hours. Start rewarming the oil until it reaches 360 F. Once again, start frying the potatoes until they become golden brown. Do not forget to turn them every now and then.

Once done, transfer them to a baking sheet and season with salt immediately.

Step 4: Make the Sauce

In a saucepan, mix water and cheese. Leave this mixture on slow heat and continue whisking till both the ingredients are mixed well together.

Step 5: Assemble the Impossible Burger

Take some scallions and slice them up. Cover the fries with some chili and cheese sauce. Then, cover with scallions and sour cream. You can use store-bought sour cream for this step.

Slather some cheese sauce on one side of the bun while putting your lettuce and tomatoes on the other side. Place your patty and close the burger using a toothpick so that it does not fall apart. Take some cheese sauce out in a small bowl and use that as a dip, if needed.

That’s all you need to do – your impossible burger is ready! Serve while it’s hot.
